Halle Berry Questioned By Police!

Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez were interviewed by police on Monday (26.11.12).
Officers in unmarked cars were seen at the actress’ Beverly Hills home to speak to her and her fiance over the fight he had with Halle’s ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry last week when he returned the former couple’s four-year-old daughter Nahla to her mother, RadarOnline.com reports.
Gabriel is expected in court today (27.11.12) to request a judge lift an order prohibiting him from seeing Nahla, and has made a sworn declaration that he did not instigate the fight, but Olivier attacked and threatened to kill him.
In his application for a restraining order against the French actor – which was granted yesterday (25.11.12) – he also asked for security footage to be secured before it was destroyed.
He said: ”I told the officers that [Martinez] was the one who attacked me, and repeatedly told them to get the security tapes from Ms. Berry’s security cameras before she and Mr. Martinez deleted them.”
The 36-year-old hunk claimed in court documents that Olivier said he would kill him if he didn’t let Halle move to France with Nahla.
The duo got into a heated fight after which Gabriel was hospitalised for multiple injuries including a broken rib and a swollen black eye before he was later arrested on suspicion of a misdemeanour battery.
Halle immediately secured a temporary emergency protection order against him to keep him at least 100 yards away for her, their daughter and Olivier for 72 hours.
The actress’s lawyer has confirmed she plans to ask for the order to be extended this week and a hearing has already been scheduled to decide whether to make it permanent for December 17.

“Get set for another protest in January” – Civil society groups tell Nigerians

nigeria corruption protest

The United Action Democracy (UAD), a coalition of citizen organizations, on Tuesday disclosed its plan to mark last January protest on subsidy removal.
To this end, the coalition has called on other labour groups to get set for another round of action, aimed at calling the attention of the government to burning issues that are yet resolved.
Speaking to newsmen in Lagos, UAD said the mass action which will take place in January 2013, is exected to last for at least two days.
The 10-day anti-fuel subsidy removal nationwide protests claimed over ten lives in different states.
A statement released by its leaders Jaye Gaskia and Ken Henshaw said: “The series of events will deepen the unfolding revolutionary process in Nigeria. As the January 2013 date approaches, revelations from investigations on the degree of abuse and rot in the petroleum sector, should frame new demands to government”
“Although it was the unconscionable hiking of fuel prices that triggered our anger and unleashed the fury of the January uprising. We were all very clear that it was unbridled treasury looting that led us down the path where our refineries had become moribund, thus turning a country which is the 6th largest oil producer in the world, with the 3rd largest installed refinery capacity in Africa, into one that depends exclusively on importation of refined products to meet its domestic needs!”
Continuing, the activists said: “We specifically urge two Days of Nationwide Mass Protests accompanied by a 48hour General Strike to mark the first anniversary of the January Uprising and place existing and new demands on the agenda with very clear timelines.”
They added that the action will be in conjuction with the Nigerian Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress, civil society groups and other unions.

“Facebooking”, Cause Of Falling Educational Standards – Chief Justice

The Chief Justice, Mrs. Georgina Theodora Woode has bemoaned the falling standards of education in the country and attributed the problem to students’ addiction to the internet and the lackadaisical attitude to reading.
She stated this in a speech read for her by Justice Avril Anim-Yeboah, Justice of the Court of Appeal at the second congregation and third matriculation of the Knutsford University College (KUC) in Accra on Saturday. It was on the theme: ‘Quality education for the 21st century.’
92 students graduated while 200 freshmen were admitted.Among the graduands were Journalists who were awarded the professional certificate in Communication Science.
Mrs. Woode said many students prefer surfing the internet and Facebook, instead of conducting researches to enhance their education to enable them contribute to the development of the nation.
“Students of today prefer short cut to success and thereby and thereby engage in examination malpractices, and at the end, complete with nothing to contribute to the development of the nation” she stressed, adding that was one reason why some students after school rely on government for jobs instead of becoming self –employed.
Mrs. Woode urged parents to make the education of their children a priority, and asked the university to produce graduates with critical thinking, creativity and reflective-thinking, to make a difference in their chosen fields.
Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, Vice Chancellor, University of Ghana commended the college for its vision and assured it of affiliation to enable it produce more graduates for the economy. He urged the students not to be deceived by politicians, to disrupt the December election but rather study hard to achieve their aim in the future.
Prof. Robert Ampoah, President KUC said the college which started with 36 students in January 2008, now has a population of 700. The objective of the college is to produce quality graduates for the job market, offer scholarships to brilliant but needy students as well as free intensive leadership and communication courses for journalists.
He appealed to the GETFUND to stretch its assistance to private colleges to enable them educate the future generations of the country. The college offers Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Accounting and Finance, Information Systems, Computer Science and Communication Science, among other programmes.
