Goldie, Gone Too Soon I returned to Nigeria on Valentine’s Day, February 14, and felt the love around me whilst walking through the arrival section of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos. I spent a long time waiting for my luggage. The Delta flight from Atlanta must have arrived while I was still at the airport. On that flight were two of my great friends, Chief Kenny Ogungbe, the President of Kenny’s Music and one of his extremely popular artistes, Goldie, born to Ekiti parents as Susan Oluwabimpe Harvey. I had known Goldie for several years but we became close last year when I invited her to sing at the Ovation Carol & Awards where she gave a superlative performance on December 21, 2012.

According to impeccable sources, Goldie left the airport with Mr Ogungbe, otherwise known as the world famous Keke and spent time with his family before his driver took Goldie to her house. She had complained of severe headache which apparently became worse somewhere along the line. She ended up at the highbrow Reddington Hospital but there are conflicting, now insignificant, reports that she was dead on arrival.

I was about going to bed when the news hit me like thunderbolt. I immediately went on Twitter where her news had gone viral. I made a few calls and eventually got Kenny Ogungbe’s partner Mr Dayo Adeneye in Atlanta, who confirmed my worst fear. Goldie’s death has almost overshadowed others news out of Africa. As I write this special tribute, her story is on BBC 4 by Zeinab Badawi. Seems we never appreciate stars until death takes them away from us. Though she was chunked out of the Big Brother House in South Africa, Goldie has kept herself relevant and newsworthy.

The world is indeed a strange place. Goldie had shared her 2013 dream project with me during our last Blackberry chat on December 25, 2012:

Goldie: Thank you sir. We will perform again next year and the year after that. Thank you for the opportunity

Me: Ok it is a deal

Goldie: Pls sir if you can help me talk to him I’ll be most grateful

Me: I’m attending his show tonight

Goldie: Thank you very much sir

Me: Yours sincerely

As I read and re-read that chat last night, tears of unfulfilled dreams rolled down my cheeks. The energetic lady was gone with the wind, just like that. I will never see her perform again at the Ovation Carol & Awards as she promised. She will never sing with Ghana’s hottest rapper Sarkodie, as she had hoped. And we will never chat again!

When she graced the cover of the current Ovation International, little did we realise it was going to be her farewell to the world. I will never forget the excitement she expressed when I sent the cover of the magazine to her. I believe she wanted the world to read her story, not the embellished ones usually splashed about celebrities. I’m glad she got the chance to have her last say. Adieu, my darling Sister. Rest in perfect peace.

Nollywood actor Lugard Onoyemu slumps and dies at National Stadium, Lagos

What is going on anotherTragedy hit Nollywood on Thursday evening, after former Secretary of Actors Guild of Nigeria(AGN), Lugard Onoyemu, slumped and died at the National Stadium in Surulere.

The sad news was confirmed by Emeka Rising, whom he once served under in the AGN.

Sources say Onoyemu was hale and hearty, but at about 5.30pm, he collapsed and was rushed to the hospital, where he passed on..R.I.P SIR..

The 'Arthur' actor says he is open to tying the knot for a second time even though his first marriage, to Katy Perry, ended in divorce after just 14 months.

Before marrying Katy in October 2010, Russell, 37, says he was so obsessed with sleeping around, it took over his life.

He said: 'I was once so devoted to 'sh**ging' I would forget to eat. I was like those people in China who die because they're so into their Xbox they stop having dinner. I focus on other things now, like meditation and yoga.

'I spend more time meditating than having sex. Isn't that good? It was unthinkable five years ago. I think the quality of the sh**ging has improved, though.

It was an amazing sight to behold at Pamadas Hotel, Abuja on Saturday when a prolific writer, Dgr8t Ali took pretty young Josephine Abba to the alter in holy matrimony.

The solemnization of holy matrimony which was conducted according to the catholic rites took place at the Christ the King Catholic Church, Kubwa Abuja, after which, the couple proceeded to the reception venue at the Pamadas Hotel somewhere in Dawaki Abuja, where both renowned and up and coming artists entertained the crowd with different displays.

The event which saw thousands of people in attendance, had Charlyboy, Mamuzee, Vina, Lady D, Aterre, Kazeem Popoola of the reality entertainment, Lina of AIT , Martins the guitarist, and other up and coming artists, including John crab and Dodolathy in attendance.

The highlight of the wedding ceremony was when Mamuzee joined the couple on the dance floor which was proceeded by the cutting of cake.

The 24-year-old model dated the 'Don't Wake Me Up' hitmaker before he left her in October 2012 for ex-girlfriend Rihanna - who he was convicted of assaulting in 2009 - and because the pair have their clothing line, The Kill, together, Karrueche insists the pair will always have a close relationship.

Speaking to the February/March issue of Vibe magazine, she said: 'At the end of the day, [Chris] will always be a friend. We'll always care about each other. We won't allow that to interfere. Our business is business.

'I do care about him and I do love him. Family is very important to me, and I've always put it in my mind to remember that.

'He'll always be in my life because we have a line together.'

Karrueche remains positive about her life at the present - despite the difficult situation between herself, Chris and Rihanna - and has no intentions of settling down any time soon as she wants to focus on her career.

She continued: 'It's a lot going on [in my life] but it could be a lot worse. And that's how I look at life. I take it for what it is.

Ne-Yo was 'facilitating the romance' on Valentine's Day.

The 'Closer' singer was performing at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles last night (14.02.13) so unfortunately didn't get to share a traditionally romantic evening with his partner, Monyetta Shaw, although he didn't mind because it meant his songs could soundtrack other people's dates.

He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: 'My Valentine's Day was sound check, then a show, so I was facilitating the romance for other people, that took up most of the night. Then from there I had to get a plane to Houston [Texas] to do another show. Not that romantic this Valentine's Day. But as long as I can spark the romance for somebody else it's all good.'

The vocalist also offered his advice about the best ways a man can romantically surprise their loved one.

He said: 'The most romantic is always the one that requires the thought. A lot of people would assume that because the music industry has been good to me and I have a few pennies in the bank that I would shower somebody with expensive gifts. That's not how I operate.

'I feel like it is truly the thought that counts, it's about giving her that bottle of perfume that she loves without telling you what it's called. That shows you pay attention.'

Kim Kardashian's divorce trial has been set for May 6.

The 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' star split from basketball player Kris Humphries in November 2011 after just 72 days of marriage but they have so far failed to dissolve their union amicably and while Kim wanted a trial next month because of her pregnancy, the trial will begin in May, according to TMZ.

Kim is expecting her first child with rapper boyfriend Kanye West and is reportedly worried that the drawn out divorce could have 'long-term effects' on her baby.

The 32-year-old beauty was treated for severe abdominal pains recently, after her doctor rushed to her home in the middle of the night to examine her and warned her to reduce her stress levels.

Kim's mother and manager Kris Jenner also confirmed she has been told to relax.

She said: 'Kim has been going through this divorce for months. She has been under a lot of stress because of it and the doctors told her she had a really tough week and the stress could become a problem if she isn't careful.'....

Namdi Nwabasili, who is an On-air personality with Lagos-based radio station, Cool FM, has fired back at rumour mongers, who blamed Reddington hospital in Victoria Island, Lagos, for the sudden death of singer Goldie Harvey.

Mr. Nwabasili, who was at the hospital, a few hours after the news of Goldie’s death started spreading, posted these tweets from his handle, @N6OFLIFE:

“Please lord have Mercy! This is Real!

“Goldie we love You! rest in Peace darling!

“Can’t bear to see someone so young and so beautiful lying down on a slab lifeless!

“Reddington hospital! Even the doctor is Crying! So Many Questions! An autopsy wil tell us better!

“Hearing them make mortuary Arrangements…. I have dieddddd! Please Lord this is Real! Have Mercy on her Soul!

“She was brought in at 7:55 DEAD! Pls stop the Fucking Rumours! Reddington hospital was not to blame!”

According to her management, the 28-year-old died shortly after arriving inNigeria from Los Angeles. She is reported to have slumped, before she was rushed to the hospital

“With a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star, Goldie Harvey. Goldie, 31, died on Thursday after she complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Award. She was rushed from her Park View, Ikoyi, Lagos residence to her official hospital, Reddington, Victoria Island, Lagos, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at exactly 7:30pm in the evening.

We consider this period a gloomy moment for us and the entire Nigerian music industry in view of the circumstance in which she passed away; the abundance of talent she exhibited in her short but eventful music career and the various opportunities her trip to the United States of America would have availed her. She is survived by her father, step- mother, brothers and sisters. We deeply sympathise with her family and fans all over the world and very grateful to all and sundry, especially, the vibrant Nigerian media for their concern and prompt reportage. We shall keep everybody informed as events unfold as we are devastated by the sudden loss.”

 Meanwhile, the remains of Goldie who hails from Ekiti State has been deposited at the mortuary of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos. Goldie represented Nigeria at the Big Brother Star Game in 2012. Her latest effort, she described as three nawti singles from her forthcoming African Invasion album are “Skibo”. “Miliki” and ” Got To Have It,” presently enjoying heavy rotations on radio and TV stations across the continent. Burial arrangements will be announced by the family. May her soul rest in peace.
