Wayne Rooney's dad arrested over betting scandal

WAYNE Rooney's father was arrested today in connection with an alleged football betting scam.
The Manchester United star's dad Wayne Snr, 48,
was arrested at his home in the West Derby area of Liverpool.
Wayne Snr and England striker Rooney's Uncle Richie, 54,
are said to be two of nine people arrested over the alleged scandal.
The arrests took place in Liverpool and Glasgow
this morning in relation to a game between Scottish sides
Motherwell and Hearts in December last year.
Motherwell midfielder Steve Jennings was also arrested
after allegedly getting himself sent off deliberately during the match.
He was sent off for dissent toward the end of the game at Motherwell's ground Fir Park, which Hearts won 2-1.
A statement issued by the Scottish Football Association and attributed to the Gambling Commission said the arrest followed 'extensive irregularities' between the two teams.
Chief executive Stewart Regan said: "While the investigation involves several other individuals outwith Scotland, it is important to stress that the evidence gathered throughout this thorough period of investigation has involved only one Scottish match.
"Motherwell FC are aware of the situation and will issue a response in due course.
"The Scottish FA will make no further comment at this stage."
A statement from Merseyside Police said: "Detectives have today executed warrants at ten addresses across Merseyside and Glasgow and arrested nine men as part of an investigation into suspicious betting activity.

Samuel Eto'o: We all work for the money, and anyone who says otherwise is a hypocrite
The Cameroon international became the world's highest-paid footballer in August, penning a three-year deal worth 10 million euros per year, and the lucrative nature of the contract is something Eto'o is not ashamed of.
"I have received an important offer and accepted it. We all work for the money, and anyone who says otherwise is a hypocrite," the 30-year-old told AS.
Eto'o was then quizzed on who he felt was the best coach he has ever played under, and he plumped for his two-time mentor during the 2000-01 and 2003-04 campaigns at Mallorca.
"For me the best coach of all time is Luis Aragones, while Jose Mourinho is the best at the moment. I learned a lot from Aragones, both as a player and as a person," he concluded.

Amazing Gift For Female Prison Inmates From A Church
THE atmosphere was quite warm and communal that afternoon but the setting in no way tells this was a prison enclosure for female inmates.
It was indeed a fun-filled afternoon for the inmates at the Kirikiri Female Prison, Apapa, Lagos, as Amazing Grace Pentecostal Church donated a multi-purpose hall to the management of the prison to further decongest the overstretched facilities.
With a number of musical and artistic displays during the commissioning of the hall, the inmates, who danced all through, felt thrilled by the philanthropy of the church. In the midst of the activities, some were busy taking photographs to remind them of their travail in prison.
It was also a burden lifted for the management of the prison that had been crying for its decongestion. The female prison is built to accommodate 105 inmates but today, as much as 173 are being kept in the space.
According to the Deputy Controller in-charge of the female prison, Mrs. Folashade Akinwale, the prison is a model female prison that has made history in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa with 173 lock-ups. Out of these 173 lock-ups, 31 are condemned, 134 are on awaiting trial, five of them on C.C and three unnamed.
“ Over the years, these facilities deteriorated and needed upgrade; and against this background, the church sought and got permission to build this hall, which is known today as ‘Amazing Grace Multipurpose Hall’ for the comfort of the inmates’, she added.
“We wish to invite other bodies to help in the restructuring work. I believe this is not a place of condemnation but of correction.”
The General Overseer of the church, Bishop (Mrs.) Chioma Grace Dauji, said the donation would spark off the feeling of oneness in the inmates that Nigerians care for them.
She said, “The inmates have to see where they are as a corrective centre and not a condemnation point. They can become what they want to be in life if they understand this. Being here does not take away their dreams in life and this is why we have come to minister onto them.”
Addressing the inmates, Dauji said, “We want to get you back to Christ so that when you come of the prison you will be useful to the society and the Kingdom of God. You need to embrace God and preach the Word of God upon your completion of jail terms.”
Speaking on the gesture, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, who was represented by Dr. Tunde Okpeyebi, said the gesture was a milk of kindness to the society, adding that the state is impressed with the church’s action and urged others to do the same.

CHELSEA INTERNATIONAL CALL UP ROUND UP
It is going to be a busy and decisive time for many of Chelsea's internationals over the coming week, with places at next summer's European Championships up for grabs.
Already qualified are the Spanish pair of Fernando Torres and Juan Mata, but they can still have a big say on which side will progress to the play-offs. On Friday they travel to Prague to face Petr Cech and Czech Republic, before hosting Scotland in Alicante on Tuesday.
The Czechs currently occupy second spot, two points ahead of the Scots in Group I, and travel to Lithuania after meeting Spain, while Scotland's other game is away in Liechtenstein.
The English trio of John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole will qualify for Poland and Ukraine if they avoid defeat in Montenegro on Friday night. Defeat would lead them sweating on how the Montenegrins then do against Switzerland on Tuesday.
Portugal and Raul Meireles sit atop Group H with two games remaining, but they are level on points with both Denmark and Norway. They entertain Iceland in Porto on Friday, before travelling to Copenhagen to meet the Danes on Tuesday. Maximum points will guarantee qualification.
It is a similar situation for Florent Malouda's France, who are clear by a point at the top of Group D. By beating Albania and avoiding defeat against second-placed Bosnia and Herzegovina in their final game, both matches at home, they would guarantee qualification. Those games are also on Friday and Tuesday.
Both Romelu Lukaku and Branislav Ivanovic are playing for second place in their respective groups, the Belgians having already lost out to Germany, and the Serbians to Italy.
Lukaku is in the squad for Belgium that hosts Kazakhstan in Brussels on Friday before travelling to Dusseldorf to face the Germans on Tuesday. If they win both they should qualify for the play-offs above Turkey, who meet Germany and Azerbaijan. He is joined in the group by our on-loan goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Serbia are at home to Italy on Friday and away to Slovenia on Tuesday. Three points from those two games would be enough for a November play-off spot.
Yossi Benayoun, on loan with Arsenal, cannot qualify with Israel, as they trail group leaders Croatia and Greece by too far. They meet Malta in the final group game on Tuesday.
In Africa, John Mikel Obi's Nigeria need to win by two clear goals against Guinea on Saturday to guarantee qualification for the African Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. They then meet Ghana in a friendly on Tuesday. Both games take place in Abuja.
Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou are already qualified with Ivory Coast and entertain Burundi in their final group game on Sunday.
Finally there are two friendly matches for Brazil's David Luiz. He is in the squad that travels to play Costa Rica on Friday, and Mexico on Sunday.
There is plenty of action at Under 21 level also, with five promising talents called up for national service.
Oriol Romeu's Spain play away to Croatia on Thursday, while Josh McEachranis in the England group that plays away games in Iceland and Norway.
Conor Clifford's Republic of Ireland travel to Liechtenstein on Tuesday, while loanees Patrick van Aanholt (Holland) and Milan Lalkovic (Slovakia) play away in Austria and Latvia on Thursday and Monday respectively. They are all European qualifiers.
At Under 19, England have three youngsters in the squad that meets France, Portugal and Ukraine in a mini-tournament for European qualifying in France, with those games taking place on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. They areJamal Blackman, Nathaniel Chalobah and Todd Kane.
Philippp Prosenik will be representing Austria on home soil in a similar format, with games against Malta, Albania and Denmark.
Bolton's Gael Kakuta denies DR Congo switch
Bolton Wanderers forward Gael Kakuta has declared he will not switch nationalities to play for his ancestral DR Congo despite reports that newly-appointed coach Claude Le Roy was close to snatching the 20-year-old who has represented France at youth level.
The Chelsea loanee said he has not had any talks with Le Roy and that the news of him joining the Leopards for the African Cup of Nations (Afrcon) qualifiers was only a rumor.
“I don’t know who started the rumor but it’s completely false. I did not have a direct contact with the DR Congo coach. Personally, I want to play for France. I’ve been playing for France since age 16. I don’t see why I should change my mind overnight,” Kakuta was quoted as saying byLe Figaro on Tuesday.
“I received phone calls of congratulations on my decision to play for Congo. I didn’t understand. It's a bit strange to call up players without letting them know before hand."
On Monday, Kakuta reported to the France U20 camp in Clairefontaine, where the Les Bleues are preparing for their Euro 2012 qualifier against Kazakhstan.
“My dream is to play for the France senior team,” he concluded.

WHY I’M MAKING CLOTHES FOR WOMEN – RUGGEDMAN
The name Ruggedman brings different memories to different minds all depending on what information we best remember him for. Whether as the green-horn rapper who picked on superiors like Idris Abdulkareem, and entertainment heavyweightsKenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye; or the benefactor who introduced ethnic singer9ice to limelight in the popular hit ‘Ruggedy Baba’ (2007) before both parties fell apart in 2010.
In May 2008, Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, unveiled his clothing line named after his birthday, 20th September Wears (T.S.W), at the Silverbird Galleria Lagos, where one-time Cross River state governor, Donald Duke was chief-launcher of the collection. Few months down the line, the buzz died down and T.S.W was out of the shops.
But next Sunday, September 25, 2011, a newly revived T.S.W will re-launch; parading a range of exotic male and female Tees, shirts, wristwatches and high-ended shoes. In this interview the award-winning rapper and T.S.W proprietor speaks excitedly on his ‘new’ baby and what was responsible for the hiatus.
You’ve been quiet a lot lately. You seem to be serious about your third album being your last. Can we say music is finally taking the back seat?
I have not been that quiet because I have been busy spreading the ‘Untouchable’ album and the videos of the tracks I have shot so far. I have been really busy recording with artistes who want me to feature on their songs. I still hold the record for the artist with the highest number of collaborations Laughs. I recorded with GT Tha Guitarman, Xpee, Tee M, Mr 2kay, Dubem of the 2009 Star Quest winners, The Pulse, Lyrics and many more. I’ve also been busy recording my artist, Chinaydu’s mixtape and songs for his album at the same time. And of course I have been busy with my 20th September Wear clothing line. Music can never be in the back seat. I have not been quiet. I have been very very very busy.
Between when u introduced TSW to us a couple of years and now not much of the line has been seen. What’s been responsible for the low presence?I went back to the drawing board. I was not okay with certain things and you know I love to give the best in everything I do. Now I believe I have the right shirts and even got more than just Tee-shirts now that will blow people’s minds.
What’s responsible for the new drive you’re giving the label now? Why are you taking it seriously all of a sudden?The drive has always been there. I have always taken it seriously. I just needed the right apparels for the clothing line.
I remember the line covers ladies’ tops ‘cos you once gave me one years back. Now tell me what other fashion products have been included and if T.S.W is strictly a ladies’ line ‘cos we know you love the ladies.Definitely I love the ladies plenty because women make a lot of things happen.Laughs. T.S.W by Ruggedman now parades male and female Tee-shirts, men’s shirts, female shoes, and male and female wristwatches for now.
From the pictures of the shoes we’ve seen, they appear really high-ended. Is that deliberate? Who are your target audience?My target audience is who ever likes what I have and can afford it. The quality is not in question anymore. It is now a question of ‘can I afford this 20th September Wear item’? But of course they are all affordable apparels.
How affordable would they be? Price range please?The prices range from Five thousand Naira upwards. I can’t tell you exactly which item costs N5000 but be rest assured it is not the female shoes, Laughs
Will there be flats? And will you consider making shoes or goods for regular everyday people or is TSW suppose to be a luxury brand?
I intend to have goods for everyday people and also have luxury items. That’s the way of the world
About how much have you invested in this venture?I have been into this since 2004 so my dear I can not start to calculate how much I have invested. But I can tell you, it’s a lot. Nothing good comes cheap.
Do you have any partners?I do not have any partners yet. I like to have something on ground first even if I am going to approach anybody to partner with me. That way, I can show him/her/them what I have done and not what I am hoping to do.
Who designs the goods?I have my team that does the designs. And I also add my ideas here and there.
Will the items be sold in regular markets or at particular places?
I am starting small so I have particular places where I will sell them. So far I have close to nine outlets in Lagos for starters. I am working with the likes of OUCH, Liz Couture, The Ballers and Hub Media stores inside Shoprite, Lekki to sell. These outlets will be included on all my promo materials for the unveiling that will take place on the 25th of September at The Hub Media stores inside Shoprite, The Palms, Lekki, Lagos from 4pm.
You spoke for poor people and mechanics in one of your popular song lyrics, are you still doing same with T.S.W?Yes because the pay off for 20th September Wear is ‘Fashion for your generation’. And this is despite the fact that my music business is different from my clothing business.
What has been your biggest challenge in getting here today with TSW?That would be ‘how’ and ‘where’ to get great quality apparels, but that I think I have overcome now through hard work and persistence.
What’s the long run vision for TSW?I pray to be to Nigeria what Nike, D & G, and GAP are to America and the world.
If business gets really busy or lucrative, is there the possibility of quitting RuggedRecords and focusing on TSW?Nope, because they work hand in hand
What’s the relationship between TSW and RuggedRecords? Is Chinaydu the only artist on your label and how’s he doing right now?
TSW was able to start off because of Rugged Records. Even my artist, Chinaydu is one of the models for TSW. For now, Chinaydu is the only artiste (apart from Ruggedman ofcourse) on Rugged Records. We are currently looking for an R n B act to sign on. As part of Chinaydu’s promo, a few tracks have been released to fans free for online download and the response has been really positive because it is easy to recognise natural talent when you hear one.
