Eminem Puts Dark Times And Drug Addiction Behind Him, Thanks Fans For Support [VIDEO]

Legendary rapper, producer, and actor Eminem thanked his fans for helping sustain him through dark times when he was struggling with drug abuse, depression, and tenuous relationships with his family during a performance in New York City Thursday night.
Addressing hundreds of screaming fans crowding the stage of Hammersteain Ballroom, the 39-year-old rapper said that “wouldn’t have gotten out of that dark place without y’all,” the Associated Press reports. He then went on to perform his Grammy award-winning song “Not Afraid.” He told the crowd that his performance was “dedicated to anybody tonight who’s been through personal struggles.”
Eminem’s music has long referenced his prolific prescription drug abuse. As the Rolling Stone review of “Relapse,” put it: “Em’s first album in nearly five years, is studded with brand names, but not Lexus or Cristal-more like Lunesta, Ambien, VicodinValium, NyQuil and other brain candy that helped Marshall Mathers turn himself into a zombie, before he got clean last year.”
His 2010 album “Recovery” continued the trend the artist began with 2009′s “Relapse” of documenting his effort to finally become sober with brutal honest-so much so that his newfound earnestness jibed unpleasantly with his former gleefully and carelessly offensive persona. Pitchfork’s review of the album, for instance, said that “for the first time in his career, he actually sounds clumsy.” Despite the divisive critical response, “Recovery” still went on to become the best selling album of 2010, according to Billboard.
Eminem performed over a dozen songs at the Hammerstein Ballroom for an event sponsored by the watch brand G-Shock, including the his hit songs “Lose Yourself,” ”Love the Way You Lie” and “The Real Slim Shady.” The hip-hop foursome Slaughterhouse, a musical supergroup of sorts that contains Eminem’s friend and fellow Bad Meets Evil member Royce da 5′ 9”, opened for the Detroit-born rapper.

Huge Whale Attempts “Jumping” Onto A Boat!(Pic)

whale jump
Matt Thornton was guiding a fishing trip recently off British Columbia when he noticed another boat had stopped alongside a large humpback whale slapping its fins on the water. Thornton cruised over and aimed his camera, but ended up capturing an extraordinary image of a smaller humpback that shot out of the water next to his boat.
This occurred late last month and the image has since been splashed on just about every Facebook page that features marine mammals, and is even entered in a National Geographic photography contest.
But beyond a brief caption there was little information about the photo, in part because Thornton had been busy fishing long hours and difficult to reach.
But in a telephone interview Thursday he explained that he captured the image with one lucky shot, without motor drive. He added that the whale calf breached so close to the boat “that we could have touched it with our fishing rods.”
Thornton, who works for Tofino B.C. Fishing Charters, said he had witnessed plenty of whale breaches, but never anything like this. “It was literally 10 feet from the boat–so close that it splashed us,” he said.
Thornton wasn’t the only one fast on the trigger. One of the clients used an iPhone to capture the event on video, which has not been widely shared...

The United States Secretary of States, Hillary Clintonhas promised to assist Nigeria in fighting the radical Islamic sect. Clinton, who is on an eleven-nations tour of the African continent, was in Nigeria yesterday and met briefly with President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to Zee News, she also said the US is ready to help Nigeria monitor the movement of goods, particularly amunitions and explosive devices trafficked to the Islamic sect through the borders of Nigeria and Cameroon.
An official travelling with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told Reuters after the closed door meeting that the United States wants to help Nigeria fight Islamists and sees it as a growing regional menace, but the country cannot rely on military might alone.
“A security strategy is not enough,” the official said. “We know all too well from our own experiences in both Iraq and Afghanistan what can happen if soldiers and police are not operating under appropriate authorities.
“We will encourage them not to use excessive force and to look at this as a law enforcement operation designed to catch perpetrators and bring them to justice. We can help them develop mechanisms for tracking and determining individuals who are likely to be engaged in supporting Boko Haram actively,” he said.
Still on Clinton’s visit, media reports that she had to cancel most of her scheduled meetings due to heightened security challenges in Nigeria. Foreign media reports on Thursday indicated that Clinton would not pass the night in Nigeria because of security fears. She also shelved the traditional ‘Meet and Greet’ with US Embassy staff.
She arrived at the Presidential Villa at 3.50pm in company with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru; Nigerian Ambassador to US, Ambassador Ade Adefuye, and a battery of security details and foreign journalists.
She left the Presidential Villa at 6.15 pm and headed for the airport and on her way to Accra, Ghana to participate in the state funeral for the late President John Attah Mills.

Gunmen suspected to be members of Islamist Boko Haram sect launch simultaneous attacks on two police posts
KANO – Gunmen suspected to be members of Islamist Boko Haram sect late on Wednesday launched simultaneous attacks on two police posts in the northern Nigerian city of Gombe killing a number of people, residents said.
The attackers, who came around 8.30 pm (1930 GMT), threw explosives at a police post in central Gombe and opened fire on the policemen, a resident said.
An unspecified number of people were killed in the attack, Ibrahim Aliyu told AFP.
“They threw explosives and opened fire on the police post in central Gombe. Some of the policemn were inside while others were outside. The explosions were followed by gunfire. There was a shootout between the gunmen and policemen which lasted till 10 pm (2100 GMT),” Aliyu said.
“From a distance, I could see lifeless bodies being loaded into police ambulances,” he said, without being able to give a precise death toll because it was dark.
In the second attack, a resident in Bagadaza district on the outskirts of Gombe, Auwal Nasiru, said from his house he heard a loud explosion coming from a nearby police post.
“There were a lot of gunshots lasting for more than an hour. I cannot say if anybody was hurt or killed in the attack,” he said.
There is no official confirmation of the attacks.
Suspected Boko Haram gunmen had in late February launched coordinated gun attacks on Gombe prison and a nearby police station during which 14 people, including policemen, were killed.
The police station was burnt down in the attack.

Photo: Fake Police Recruiters Busted In Kumasi

fake KUMASI COP
SOME UNSUSPECTING residents in and around Kumasi metropolis have fallen victim to the fraudulent activities of two young men who allegedly posed as police officer and human resource agent for their respective organisations in a phony enlistment programme.
The suspects, Kwadwo Afriyie, 45, a tile layer, and Mark Yama, 26, unemployed, are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. They were arrested on August 3, 2012 separately at their hideouts in the city when information about their fraudulent activities got to the police.
DCOP Augustine Gyening, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, told journalists that Kwadwo Afriyie, who posed as a police officer, had in his possession some forged documents bearing the Ghana Police Service (GPS) logo.
According to him, the suspect used the said documents in collecting various sums of money from his unsuspecting victims under the pretext of facilitating their recruitment into the service.
The police chief stated that the fake police officer, in one of his fraudulent moves to convince people to apply for the enlistment, contacted a complainant to pay him GH¢1,200 to ensure an easy sail into the service.
The complainant, who became suspicious, reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of the suspect, DCOP Gyening indicated. The police found on him fake police medical and recruitment forms, a stamp, and a letter embossed with GPS logo purporting to postpone police training at the various centres across the country, due to President John Atta Mills’ death.
In the case of suspect Mark Yama, he made a representation to his victims as a human resource agent of a supposed Cable Gold Consult Internet in Kumasi, claiming to recruit qualified persons as marketing officers for the said company.
The suspect was said to have managed to swindle victims of his scam sums of money as an interview fee that was pegged at GH¢15 per head. After collecting their monies, DCOP Gyening said, the suspect could not take the victims to where the supposed company was located when he met them at the Adehyeman Gardens area in Kumasi.
He disclosed that the fraudster had asked the victims, who were from different parts of the country, to converge on the Adehyeman Gardens area to be taken to their will-be employers for orientation. The police commander intimated that the victims became suspicious of Mark Yama and alerted the police about his activity, leading to his arrest.
The suspect admitted to the offence during police interrogation, indicating that he was working for a non-existing company, said DCOP Gyening. Yama told police investigators he went into the fraudulent business after falling victim to it once when he completed school and was looking for a job.

I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE A SECOND CHANCE ON BIG BROTHER’ – UTI NWACHUKWU

Winner of the 2010 edition of Big Brother Africa, Uti Nwachukwu, says stories about him being gay or in relationships with older women are nothing but bad press. According to him, ‘In Nigeria, once you are young in the entertainment industry and you are doing well, next thing they tag you with is that you are either dating an older woman or that you are gay.’
Uti, who says he’s currently in a relationship, says he’s ‘a very passionate person. When I love, I do more than the average person. I could be a bit possessive and all that’, he said.
On his experience in Big Brother All Stars, he described the reality show as a platform to correct the mistakes he made during BBA 3, in which he was a contestant: ‘Big Brother 3 was easy but I was lucky to get a second chance…but for the BBA All Stars, they didn’t just bring back anybody, they brought back the best from Seasons 1-4, these were people who had come out of the show and people had pointed out their mistakes to them. I won’t lie by saying I didn’t have my own strategies.’
Uti, who recently celebrated his 30th birthday, is presently a co-presenter on Jara, a showbiz programme aired on DSTV.

OMG! 20 Children Hidden Underground by an Islamic Sect for Nearly Ten Years

sleep
An independent Islamic sect in Russia has kept 20 children living underground for almost ten years, a court heard. The children, including a 17-year-old who was pregnant, had not been exposed to the natural heat of sunlight. They were part of 70 sect members who appeared to have been held captive underground.
Authorities were digging beneath a three-storey building close to the city of Kazan in the republic of Tartarstan when the sect members were found in their underground cells.
The sect, which is known as the “Fayzarahmanist,” was named after its 83-year-old organiser Fayzrahman Satarov.
A Tartarstan TV channel called Vesti reported Satarov declared himself a prophet and his house an independent Islamic state. His followers read his manuscripts and most were banned from leaving their eight-storey underground bunker.
On Satarov’s background, the media has learned he was described as a former deputy to a Sunni Islamic cleric in the 1970s. A criminal investigation had been opened into the sect. Authorities learned Fayzarahmanist practices unconventional way of life. The sect even stops its members from seeking medical assistance or education, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors have warned the sect it will be disbanded if it continues its illegal activities, such as stopping its members from seeking medical assistance or education. Police suspects child abuse may have been done to the kids, but no arrests have been made. For its part, the court will decide whether the children will be allowed to stay with their parents.
Numerous cults and sects have emerged and flourished in the years since the USSR’s collapse in 1991.

Why Women Choose Bad Boys

FRIEND OF FRIEND DATEWomen choose bad boys because their hormones make them, new research suggests. When ovulating a woman’s hormones influence who she sees as good potential fathers, and they specifically pick sexier men over obviously more dependable men.

“Previous research has shown in the week near ovulation women become attracted to sexy, rebellious and handsome men like George Clooney or James Bond,” study researcher Kristina Durante, of The University of Texas at San Antonio, said in a statement. “But until now it was unclear why women would ever think it’s wise to pursue long-term relationships with these kinds of men.”
The study was published today, May 14, in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
The researchers had women view online dating profiles of either a sexy man or a reliable man during periods of both high and low fertility. Participants were asked to indicate the expected paternal contribution from the men if they had a child together based on how helpful the man would be caring for the babyshopping for food, cooking and contributing to household chores. Near ovulation women thought that the sexy man would contribute more to these domestic duties.
“Under the hormonal influence of ovulation, women delude themselves into thinking that the sexy bad boys will become devoted partners and better dads,” Durante said. “When looking at the sexy cad through ovulation goggles, Mr. Wrong looked exactly like Mr. Right.”
The researchers followed up that find with a second study in which women interacted directly with male actors who played the roles of sexy cad and reliable dad once during ovulation and again at low fertility. Again, ovulating women thought that the sexy cad — but not the reliable dad — would contribute more to childcare, but only as her partner (not if he shacked up with another woman).
“When asked about what kind of father the sexy bad boy would make if he were to have children with another woman, women were quick to point out the bad boy’s shortcomings,” said Durante. “But when it came to their own child, ovulating women believed that the charismatic and adventurous cad would be a great father to their kids.”
“While this psychological distortion could be setting some women up to choose partners who are better suited to be short-term mates, missing a mating opportunity with a sexy cad might be too costly for some women to pass up,” said Durante. “After all, you never know if he could be the ‘one.’”
