Kaduna blast: There are many casualties – Survivor

A survivor of this morning bomb attack at Linus Lighthouse, said two bombers struck different parts of the packed St Rita’s church, in Kaduna. However, contrary to reports that a lone bomber rammed into the Church gate, Linus revealed that more than one person carried out the attack and that the suspects got right inside the building.
He said, “I cannot tell you how many casualties, but there were many. The heavy explosion also damaged so many buildings around the area.”
But Aminu Lawal, Kaduna police spokesman, said there was only one confirmed bomber and that no casualties had yet been confirmed apart from the bomber himself.
Another witness, Daniel Kazah, a member of the Catholic cadets in the church, said he had seen three bodies on the bloodied church floor. “But still others were taken to the mortuary.”
There was no immediate claim of responsibility but this attack is a signature of Islamist sect, Boko Haram.
In June this year, a bomb explosion in a church in Kaduna state triggered a week of sectarian violence that killed at least 90 people.

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde honoured with BEEFTA Film Icon Award

For her contribution to the film industry in Africa, Europe and globally, Nollywood superstar, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, has been recognized with a special honorary award, BEFFTA FILM ICON. BEFFTA (Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts) award is Europe’s biggest award ceremony celebrating achievements of black and ethnic personalities in showbiz globally.
BEFFTA founder, Pauline Long, praised Omotola’s great talent and commended her for being a mentor to the young ones aspiring to get into the film industry.
Omotola, a World Food Programme Ambassador and Amnesty International activist, started her career at a tender age of 17 and has appeared in over 300 hundred movies, often playing the lead roles.

It started like a dream but today, we thank God all the glory because it has become a reality. When we started, we had late Michael Jackson as our mentor. That was why in one of our songs titled, Busy Body which we released about 12 years ago, we tried to copy Michael Jackson’s dance steps.

Then, our fans used to call us, Paul and Peter. He influenced our musical career. We were challenged by Michael Jackson’s huge achievements in the world of music. We said to ourselves, if Michael Jackson could do all of these, we could equally do better. So, we tried our best and by the grace of God and our fans, we have realise our dreams.

The only thing we can say, is that we have been signed under Konvict. And to prove this new deal which most people are still doubting, we featured Akon in our ‘’Chop my Money” remix.

You call it private and that’s why, most times we don’t like to discuss it for personal reasons.

My dear, it is not easy. However, we handle everybody with love and care. One thing is to be a celebrity, and another is knowing how to handle all that comes with it. Sometimes, they will call on us just to hear our voices and to wish us well.

Sometimes, we swim or play basketball with our friends.

Why was J. Martins not featured in your latest album, “Invasion”?

We have no problem with J Martins. He was not in the country when we released the album. You know as we are busy so also are others too. And you don’t expect them to displease themselves in order to please you. But we are in good terms.

Challenges in the industry so far….

A lot of challenges, sometimes after releasing an album our marketers will want to give us condition that we go 50/50. It’s very difficult to compromise with them. Sometimes, if you enter the studio to record you song, they will compel you to do what you wouldn’t want to do.

The craziest thing you have ever done!

Laughs.. that was when we went for a night party some years ago. Some desperate girls were all over us and before we knew what was happening, they were kissing and romancing us openly. We had to run for our dear lives.

Most embarrassing moment

It was when we were coming up. Some of our kinsmen walked up to us and told us that its high time we join them in the village and stop roaming about as if we are not conversant with the tradition of our people. We felt embarrassed. But unfortunately, we later adhered to their advice.

How do you feel about your mum’ s death?

We feel so bad to know that our mum is no more. But who are we to question the Almighty God. Traditionally, we are supposed to bury her and not the other way round. It is just that it happened so soon.. Indeed, her death was a big blow to us.

It was rumoured that you people knew what happened to her?

Then, it is too bad to hear that people are accusing us of being responsible for our mum’s death. We are not blaming anybody. People are free to say what they want to say. We begin to wonder whether there is anything that will ever make us to go for the life of our beloved mother.

Her life cannot be quantified in terms of money or fame. So, our answer to this question is that we have no hand in our mum’s death. We only blame the death that snatched her away from us if not so, people won’t be pointing accusing fingers at us. She died after a brief illness.

Aside your mum’s death, there was another rumour that you guys have joined Illuminati?

We are short of words. Why would anybody say such things about us? Well, the fact remains that we do not belong to any secret cult, whether Illuminati or anything you call it. We owe our achievements and everything that is happening to us to Almighty God.

Kidnappers abduct mother of Chairman of House Committee on Internal security


Mrs Obedatu Abudu-Balogun, mother of Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Internal Security, Hon Abiodun Abudu Balogun, representing Ijebu North, Ijebu East and Ogun waterside Federal Constituency, has been kidnapped.
Mrs Balogun was abducted by six gunmen around 9.30pm yesterday from her residence at Ita-Otu,ijebu area of Ogun State.
Mr Balogun who described the incident as unfortunate and painful said his family was praying for the safety return of his mother.
Ogun State police command’s Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the command was yet to be informed about the incident and assured the commencement of investigations as soon as they are alerted.

Governor Shettima’s wife distributes rams to widows for Sallah

The wife of the Borno state Governor Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima through her pet project Support for Widows, Orphans and Tsangaya (SWOT) has presented rams to widows and Tsangayas in the state in the sprit of Eild El-Kabir Sallah celebration. Presenting the rams to the beneficiaries at the Government House Maiduguri, the chairman of the Foundation, Alhaji Muhammadu Bello (Sardaunan Gwoaza) said the foundation is presenting 100 rams to the widows and Tsangaya within the metropolis.
He said her Excellency the wife of the governor has approved 40 rams to the Tsagaya schools, while 60 rams were given to vulnerable widows across the Maidugri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere local government areas of the state.
The Sardaunan Gwoaza said they used the widows Association and the Tsangaya Association to arrived at the choice of the beneficiaries, adding that the gesture is to assist these groups in order to celebrate the Sallah with their families happily.

Kofya Brown, the 25 year old Computer Science undergraduate, became the first contender to be evicted from Gulder Ultimate Search 9. She failed the first test of Christopher Okagbue, one of the three Gulder Ultimate Search 9 Gatekeepers, thus ending her quest in search of the Gatekeeper’s fortune.

She has a 7 year old daughter, named Jessica, whom she described as her best friend. She said one of the reasons she entered for Gulder Ultimate Search 9 was so she could use the prize money to take care of Jessica.

NDLEA discovers drugs inside native cloth, arrests 8 suspects

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has discovered substances suspected to be methamphetamine inside some native clothe called Asho-Oke. Eight suspected drug traffickers were also apprehended with a total of 10.635kg of narcotics. The arrests and seizures took place at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos. One of the suspects, Tembo Gideon AKA Benson Okechukwu a Nigerian travelling to Thailand with a Zambian passport concealed 2.522kg of methamphetamine inside some native clothe.
The breakdown of drugs recovered includes 4.460kg of methamphetamine, 4.030kg of heroin and 2.145kg of cocaine. Apart from one of the suspects caught attempting to smuggle 3.455kg of heroin from India, others were going outside the country with different quantities of drugs.
NDLEA Commander at the Lagos Airport, Mr Hamza Umar gave the names of the suspects as Onyekwere Wisdom Chinedu, 26years, Obinna Christian Chigbo, 37years, Muogbo Uchechukwu Sixtius, 25years, Tembo Gideon aka Benson Okechukwu, 25years and Orabusinze Chukwuka Joseph, 28years. Others are Ogbonnaya Kalu Robert, 54years, Obiorah Celestine Nonso, 31years and Udeh Lazarus Makwe, 44years.
Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade in his Sallah message urged members of the public to shun drug trafficking and criminal acts capable of truncating their God ordained destinies. In his words, “it is sad that these suspected drug traffickers are behind bars when they ought to be with their families this festive season. Drug trafficking and other criminal acts will only lead to misery, shame and unfulfilled dreams”.
The suspects will be charged to court soon.
