Nicki Minaj Signs Nigerian Artiste

American hiphop artiste, Nicki Minaj has signed two artistes to her imprint and one of them is a Nigerian artiste and producer, Parker Ighile. Label has not been officially announced but the singer taking to Twitter has shutdown speculations that it would be called: Pink Friday Records. ‘I’ll issue a press release w/the official name very soon,’ she said. Parker produced and featured on a track titled ‘hell yeah’ for the ‘barbie’ rapper, that would possibly feature Lil Wayne. Parker Ibrahim Ighile is based in London but born to Nigerian parents – father from Benin and hausa mother from Kaduna. At the age of 17, he produced his first UK Platinum hit on Chipmunk’s first single and he has since produced songs for Jessie J and Angel.

UNIPORT KILLINGS: Lloyd Toku Mike is Laid to Rest

Yesterday in Port Harcourt, one of the victims, Lloyd Toku Mike  was laid to rest in a ceremony laden with emotions.The bereaved parents told journalists at the Township Stadium in the old Port Harcourt, that the only thing that could assuage them is that “justice should not only be done, but must be seen to be done”.

They commended the Police on the arrest of suspects in the killing of their son and his friends but added that more suspects are still at large. With deep, emotional words, they expressed how they felt since their son’s passing.

Toku’s father said he still feels the presence of his late son around the house. “I still remember him holding his mother by her shoulders assuring her that the future would be bright for the family by the time he finishes his University education and make inroads into his musical career. All that dreams have been brought to an abrupt end.”

Toku’s mother expressed what she called “inner joy that the evil labels of being thieves and cultists put around her son and his friends were cleared by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammad Abubakar, who exonerated the innocent persons murdered when they went to recover debt from somebody who promised one of them accommodation, but wickedly raised alarm alleging they were thieves.”

May his soul and those of his friends rest in peace.....Amen!

D’Banj to release album featuring Kanye West next month

Dapo Oyebanjo, more popular as D’Banj, has finally revealed the date when his first album, after the MoHits era will be released. The Kokomaster, whose Oliver Twist video won the Most Gifted Male Video, at the just concluded Channel O Music Video Awards, has confirmed ‘D King’s Men’ will be available from December 12, 2012.

Emma Nyra is a young artist from Texas whose parents both hail from Delta State, Asaba. When this fast-rising Houston-based artiste decided to relocate to Lagos - Nigeria in order to further pursue her career, she made a vital decision for her future within the music industry. Set on taking over a vastly female deprived market, she soon met her manager, Ubi Franklin of Made Men Management, who guided her moves with his experience in the industry. It was through this exposure that Nyra was able to gain widespread familiarity and she has been working non-stop ever since! Emma Nyra has been garnering more experience through platforms such as the “Iyanya and Friends Tour”, which traveled to over 12 major cities in Nigeria, and featured other fast-rising artistes such as Flowssick,Rayce, and Mr. 2kay. Nyra has also been working on brand new features and vocal work for artistes such as Iyanya’s “Ur Waist”, Iceberg Slim’s “Ayanfe”, plus new singles with General Pype, Durellaand many more. So first of all, how long has music been a passion of yours?

Emma Nyra:

Ever since I was around 4 years old, I can remember always having a passion for music; a very deep, very special connection.

What sparked it?

Emma Nyra:

It’s in my blood actually. My mom’s father was in a band and played the guitar and other various instruments. My own father was a DJ and my parents are both avid music collectors so they influenced me.

What gave you the confidence to launch fully into music?

Emma Nyra:

My parents encouraged me to get my degree before I ventured into entertainment, so as soon as I got my degree in Health Administration in 2010 [Texas Southern University], I launched into singing, acting and modelling.

“Ori Mi Wu” - beautiful track, love song AND a dance number, what inspired it?

It was inspired by a boy of course ;;) but I also wanted to make a love song you could bang in the club.

Shayo Grass:

Hmmm, makes perfect sense...  So how did you get noticed?

Emma Nyra:

I’ve opened up for different artistes such as Fally Ipupa, Iyanya, P-Square, 2face Idibia, Kelly Hansome and others which helped with my stage presence as well as getting me noticed. I’ve also done 2 Nollywood movies which really launched my career and helped to make my face more recognizable.

Shayo Grass:

Oh! Which ones?

Emma Nyra:

I did “Rebound” with Desmond Elliot, Uche Jumbo, and Van Vicker which was shot in Houston, TX. Then I did “Keep My Dream” with Ini Edo which was shot in Maryland.

Shayo Grass:

Multitalented! VERY rare!!! What is it like on the underground music scene in Texas, as compared to Lagos?

Emma Nyra:

There are so many underground artistes not only Texas but America in general. Sometimes, it’s more difficult for their voices to be heard. The underground scene in Lagos is booming and their voices are readily heard!

Shayo Grass:

Why do you think that is?

Emma Nyra:

In my opinion, I feel as though Lagos is raw and the talent is heard and felt. That’s why so many people are moving to Nigeria.

Shayo Grass:

True... In the Nigerian music industry, who inspires you the most?

Emma Nyra:

The richness of Omawumi’s voice, Tiwa Savage’s style and the depth of Waje’s voice.

Shayo Grass:

Haba, no male idols?

Emma Nyra:

Of course! I admire General Pype, Don Jazzy, and Wande Coal is my favorite artiste.

Shayo Grass:

Lol, I agree with you on Don Jazzy, dude's a genius!!! So where do you see Emma Nyra in 5 years?

Emma Nyra:

In 5 years, I will be at the top of the charts with a clothing line, international recognition and some awards under my belt in Jesus name! :D

What advice would you give to upcoming artistes who are trying to break into the industry successfully like you have?

Emma Nyra:

I would tell them to make sure they work out a path for themselves! Never stop shaping your craft because the industry is constantly changing. And lastly, never do it for the fame or the name, but do it for the love of the game.

PHOTO: Woman Stops Rape By Cutting Off Man Penis, Takes It Into Police Station As Evidence

Monju Begum, a 40-year-old Bangladesh woman stopped an alleged rapist in his tracks when she reportedly cut off his penis and then took it to police as evidence. According to police, Begam’s neighbor, Mozammel Haq Mazi, forced his way into her shanty and began sexually assaulting her.

Investigators say Begum stopped the attack by cutting off his penis. She then placed the evidence into a polythene bag and took it into police as proof that Mazi had attempted to rape her .Begum, a married mother of three, told police that Mazi had been harassing her for the past six months. Mazi is reportedly also married and has five children.

“It is quite an unusual incident. As far as I am aware, this is the first time that a woman has brought a severed penis to the police station as evidence,” said police spokesperson Abul Khaer. We will arrest him once his condition gets better,” said Khaer.

Mazi denied the allegations telling investigators that the two were having an affair.

“Recently she suggested that both of us can go settle down in Dhaka,” said Mazi. “I refused and told her that I cannot leave my wife and children, so she took revenge on me.”

Man arraigned for $8,900 scam in Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 arraigned one Etchie Joseph before Justice Adebisi Akinlade of the Lagos High Court, Ikeja on a three count charge for
offences bordering on attempt to obtain money by false pretence and possession of fraudulent documents.

One of the charges reads: “Etchie Joseph ( a.k.a Stanley Oberman) on or about the 30th day of October, 2007 at Pulsenet Cybercafé No. 24 Opebi Road, in Ikeja within the Ikeja Judicial Division had in your possession a document containing false pretence to wit: an e-mail dated 25th day of September 2007 purportedly to be written by Stanley Oberman and falsely represented that Stanley Oberman had the sum of $5,450 ( Five Thousand Four Hundred and Fifty United State Dollars) to be transferred to Dale”.

Stanley Oberman who represented himself as a white man to one Veronica Pena had devised different means to defraud his victim. Joseph claimed to be residing at LA Grange, KY 40031, United States of America. In his statement, he confessed that he actually tried to defraud Pena but was not successful and was about to give up when he was arrested.

“Why I Left My Job At The Bank To Become Dangote’s Truck Driver”

Henry Pender is a graduate of Political Science from the University of Ibadan. Pender graduated in 2000 and has worked as a banker, yet he is among the about 100 graduates undergoing training to become truck drivers; or rather logistics assistants. Pender is also the class governor of this first batch of trainees.

“After my service, I had the privilege of being retained at the Rivers State Primary Education Board where I did my primary assignment.

I was with them for about a year before I joined the All States Trust Bank, which is now defunct. I worked with them for three years before I joined the Ecobank, from there I moved to the Oceanic Bank before joining Ecobank again after the acquisition of Oceanic Bank by Ecobank.

“I had to leave the banking industry when I married my colleague, because the human resource policy then did not allow spouses to work in the same office. I felt that my wife should stay behind while I as a man would look around for something to do. It wasn’t easy, because the job was not forthcoming as I thought. I attended a couple of interviews at different places, but I didn’t get what I was looking for.

“When this opportunity of becoming truck driver with Dangote presented itself, I applied with open mind. I felt that this is an opportunity for a new beginning to move into a new paradigm that is not explored. We have just begun the journey in the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT). I was pleasantly surprised when I came here to see people from different backgrounds and professions.

“We are all getting along very well. I am looking forward for an experience that would improve our larger society. Dangote has put something in place that would turn out to be a revolution in the transport industry in this country. I think this programme would eventually become a model that all organisations of international standard would adopt in no distance future.

“From personal point of view, I like driving. I have driven a lot since when I became a professional driver and I like travelling. But by coming here, I have been exposed to the academic side of driving. I feel that whatever I do as a graduate, there should be a level of expected difference from what a layman would do. I think the objective of employing graduates as drivers is for sanity to be restored on our highways. Most of us are victims of the recklessness of heavy truck drivers and this is what this initiative wants to address. We are being trained here to become complete gentlemen as drivers,” Pender said.

He explained that he has, essentially, decided to join the truck driving profession out of interest not for material reward.

“As at the time we had our interview, there was no mention of any material reward. It is now that we are hearing that after a successful driving for a certain period, or covering of certain mileage that one would own a truck or things like that. No such thing was mentioned; there was no mention of special incentives rather than we would be employed and paid salaries.

“What I would say lured me into joining the truck driving profession is the name Dangote that is known locally and internationally. I bet you that if it were some other companies that came up with this initiative, some of us may not be here but the mention of the name Dangote, one would know that there is quality; there is a personality behind it; there is international recognition; that is what lured most of us here beyond any other material gain.

“We only discovered the entrepreneurial incentive of this programme when we came here; when most of us have completed their registration. Being somebody who had the experience of the banking sector, I would quickly join Dangote, because I know I would have job security and we are enjoying ourselves here in the NITT as the pioneer batch of this training programme. I never knew there is an institute like the NITT in Nigeria. We are grateful to them for the knowledge they are impacting in us.

“I want to also use this medium to urge the youth of Nigeria to work hard. We have to make names for ourselves by working hard as it is not all of us who are children of the privileged, therefore we are here as part of our dignity of labour. I would rather stay here and do this work than apply for visa to go abroad and face all kinds of humiliation by washing toilets or driving taxi while I have a similar option here, which I would do with dignity and leave a good example for the upcoming ones,” Pender explained.

Eminent Nigerians storm Ilorin to pay their last respects to Saraki

Saraki died in a Lagos hospital in the early hours of yesterday, ending a chapter in the political history of the state.

Though the body was scheduled to arrive the city at 3:30p.m., the state government practically relocated to the Ilorin International Airport before 2:00 pm to receive not only the body of the most influential Kwara State indigene in recent history but also the eminent citizens expected at the burial.
The VIP Lounge was filled with the team waiting to receive the body and guests. The team was led by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and Speaker Abdulrazaq Atunwa and his deputy, Yisa Gana. They were joined by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Isiaq Gold, commissioners, state lawmakers, special advisers and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and local government chairmen.

Reporters, photographers, politicians and airport staff also roved up and down on the tarmac to catch a glimpse of guests.

Also at the airport were senators Simeon Ajibola, Shaba Lafiaji and members of the House of Representatives from the state.

First to arrive was Alhaji Yusuf Alli (SAN). He arrived with a member, House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmad Alli aboard a chattered jet.

Chairman of Bicourtney Aviation Services Dr. Wale Babalakin (SAN), Senator Danjuma Goje and Andy Uba arrived at exactly 3:20 pm aboard another private jet marked: M-ANGA.

At 3:26 pm, a presidential jet marked Nigerian Air Force 5N-FGS conveying the Minister of National Planning Dr. Shamsudeen Usman touched ground. Some other top Federal Government functionaries flew with them.

Two minutes later, Speaker Aminu Tanbuwal, former Imo State Governor Jim Nwobodo and others arrived aboard another chattered jet marked D-AFAC. They were received by the Kwara State Speaker and other state government functionaries.

At 15:40 pm, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, arrived aboard a chattered jet marked: 2S-UBS. He arrived with some aides.

At 4:03 pm, another chattered jet marked: 3B-RGT conveying Kola Abiola and some federal lawmakers also touched the ground.

Senator Bukola Saraki and some family members arrived aboard a Rivers State jet marked: N565RS at 4:09. Decked in white agbada and a white cap to match, the former governor who wore mournful look, was received by his successor and Speaker of the House of Assembly, among others. He was immediately massed by a retinue of aides and politicians. They condoled him.

Security operatives tried in vain to keep people away from the bereaved.

At exactly 4:28 pm, a chattered Overland jet marked 5N-BCR landed with the body. The body tucked in a brown coffin, was moved into a waiting ambulance marked: KW 240 A08 belonging to the Specialist Hospital, Sobi, Ilorin.

The body was received by Bukola and Ahmed among others.

The arrival triggered uncontrollable emotions among sympathizers. Some burst into tears. Many shouted: “Allahu akbar” repeatedly as the coffin was being trasferred into the ambulance.

The crowd of A-list guests left the airport located on Ogbomoso road creating traffic snarl. Their vehicles were joined by the masses who rode on commercial motorcycles along with police escorts leading the body and the dignitaries to the Muslim praying ground on New Yidi Road. Residents who lined the road at both sides shouting: “Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar
