International Republican Institute (IRI) in partnership with United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United States Consulate launched Dreams4Naija; a 30-minute documentary profiling young Nigerians and their expectations and dreams for a future Nigeria on April 11, 2014 at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Hosted by TV personality Adaure Achumba and Comedian Owen Gee, the event provided attendees the platform to discuss measures needed to promote youth participation in politics and prevent electoral violence.

The documentary produced by the International Republican Institute (IRI) in partnership with United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United States Consulate is a 30-minute documentary profiling young Nigerian leaders like Chude Jideonwo, Mosunmola Umoru, Kola Oyeneyin, Olusola Onibginde, Tosin Jegede and their expectations for a future Nigeria.

NIGERIAN SINGER, NIKKI LAOYE UNVEILED AS THE VOICE FOR REFUGEES IN SOUTHWEST NIGERIA.

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) Southwest Zone has just unveiled singer Nikki Laoye as one of their Celebrity Voices, who would help bring to the forefront the activities of the NCFRMI as well as the plight of refugees and other persons of concern.
The Commission, which is an establishment under the Presidency (Federal Government of Nigeria), revealed this new development at their Town Hall meeting organized in Lagos over the weekend, with the Community of Refugees in Lagos State. 

Held in conjunction with the Lions Club International & presided by the SouthWest Zonal head - Mrs Magaret Ukegbu, the meeting was a forum of interaction with the refugees to determine their needs and discuss their challenges of integrating into the Nigerian society as well as present them with donations of materials, food stuffs, multivitamins and clothing materials.

It was also an opportunity for the Southwest Zone of the NCFRMI to introduce Nikki Laoye officially to all present at the meeting.

An explosion has rocked the Nyanya Park in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory

Many have been killed in an early morning explosion which occurred today, 14^th of April, 2014 at a motor park in Nyanya area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. 

                                      

The explosion occurred in a section of the park allocated to luxury buses popularly called El-Rufa’i buses, with a lot of passengers at the motor park.

Eye witness accounts say casualties are high but can’t confirm the exact figures.The incident is said to have occurred at about 6.45 am during the rush hour.

NSCDC officials, Fire Service, NEMA, the DSS and Police have been on ground battling to contain the situation.

One of the victims at Nyanya Park, Kunle Bamidele, told Channels Television that he was on a queue to get on a bus when he and other passengers heard a loud blast and scampered to safety.

Channels Television also spoke to the Head of Anti-Terror Unit of the NSCDC,  whose men have been at the scene to control the situation.

“Yes the situation is exactly what you are seeing on ground, there has been an explosion of high magnitude and several lives have been lost, even as you are looking on the ground you’ll see patches of human flesh.

“We are here as first responded to try to mitigate the situation on the humanitarian intervention… It is a suspicion that it was a bomb placed on the ground, so we have asked the office to send in more people so that we can take care of this crowd control in case of the unfortunate again.”

On the casualty level, he said, “Honestly nobody can do that now but as I’m telling you we have had over 7 to 8 vehicles from Civil Defence,  from NEMA and other agencies who have done evacuations.”

The NEMA Director of Search and Rescues, who spoke off camera said that at least 30 vehicles have been destroyed.

CASTING CASTING FOR AFRICA FASHION WEEK NIGERIA

Africa Fashion Week will be taking place in Nigeria on 17th & 18th May (AFWN) & Nigerian Student Fashion & Design Week will be taking place n 5th & 6th June.

We will be casting for male and female models for both shows (some models may be chosen for both shows and some for only one show).

Female Models must be of a minimum height of 5.9 and no more than a size 12 dress size (preferably size 6 to 10).

Male Models must be a minimum height of 6 foot.

All models must wear jeans and a vest top (white or black). Women must wear high heels (no wedges allowed). All models must know their statistics (full measurements).


DATE: Saturday 19th April

TIME: 11am sharp (any model that is not at the venue by 1pm at the latest will not be seen - so you must be on time and be prepared to wait till the end).

Teaming up with popular dance team, Alien Nation and Stephen of Kaffy's Imagneto crew, the energetic & captivating dance video was shot on location at the University of Lagos and directed by ace video director, TFrizzle of Frizzle N Bizzle Films.

With the fantastic music production by Xblaze (Nikki's brother) and the creative video scripting by Nikki herself and Temisan (Head Choreographer, Alien Nation), "123" is bound to be one of the top dance videos of 2014.
