2Digits Records CEO Breaks Silence About Artistes/Labels Deal Issues In Nigeria

2Digits Records CEO Breaks Silence About Artistes/Labels Deal Issues In
Nigeria

Abiola Adedokun, the principal Consultant of Nigeria's first Independent
Premium Digital Record Label, 2Digits Records speaks out on the
disadvantages of artistes leaving a Record Label while the Contract
Agreement is still binding.

The Label is the first African Independent Digital Record Label and
premium Nigerian Digital Music Empire.

According to him, “Many Record Label enters into an in explicit contract
agreement with the artiste(s) which are usually prepared by a qualified
Lawyer but usually without the involvement or proper consultation with an
Entertainment Attorney to review the contract as this is their speciality”.

A Record Label should be seen like any other businesses which cater and
protect its customers in terms of goods and services rendered and on the
other hand its investors so as to ensure its continuous existence.

2Digits Records Label boss tells us what a Contract is. “A Contract is an
agreement between two or more people with what is called a Deed of
Agreement.” While a Deed of Agreement should be explicit enough to spell
out clearly the rules and regulations that bind the parties to it, though
this usually comes in some terminologies and Artistes are therefore
strongly advised to have an Entertainment Attorney to finalize their deal
or negotiate it for them as artiste may not be skilled in this area
because this may be detrimental to them in the future most especially when
the proceeds starts coming in.

But my advice is that Artiste should learn to be humble and have patience
as its very common that you don’t always get what you desire at the
initial stage of a business but as time goes on it gets better which gives
room for renegotiation of the initial agreement.

In his words, 2Digits Records is starting off with 4 artistes named
Cheekuh, Dee Dread, ND Dancie and L.U.M.I. The 4 Artistes are known as the
2Digits All stars.

Let’s hope this will be the beginning of a new dawn for the Nigerian Music
Industry as 2Digits Records leads the way for other labels going digitally
as the first Africa's premium digital label with major international deals
with the likes of Sony Music International, Universal Records among
others.

The Debut single of the 2Digits All stars "SUGAR" can be listened to via
Spinlet, and other Mobile Applications platform worldwide and all Download
portals.
