Louboutin launches website to fight counterfeiting

Christian Louboutin launches website to fight against counterfeiting.
  •                                                               Christian Louboutin launches website …
After filing a lawsuit against Yves Saint Laurent in April 2011,Christian Louboutin has engaged in a new legal battle. The designer is now accusing Jessica Simpson of copyright infringement, alleging that her "Evangela" towering sandals are strikingly similar to the "Statarata" model the French designer launched a couple of years ago. Convinced that numerous e-commerce sites are selling knockoffs of his iconic red soles, the designer has decided to offer customers a way to hunt down counterfeit: an online platformcalled Stop Fake - Christian Louboutin."Keep in mind that when something is too good to be true, that's usually what it is worth. Websites selling low low priced Louboutin looking shoes (so called “cheap Louboutin”) are probably not selling the real thing. We make no shoes in Asia. There is no factory in China that can sell legitimate shoes to anyone as we do not use any factories in China," warns the French maison on its site. The designer explains that a thorough program to fight against retailers selling counterfeit products and the companies providing the fakes was designed to help online buyers only purchase authentic shoes.  Louboutin also outlined that the brand monitors auction sites and their hosting providers and works with customs services to fight against counterfeiting.Christian Louboutin launched its European online boutique April 11. Customers can shop on theChristian Louboutin website for designs by color, size and heel height -- with high and sky high unsurprisingly dominating the options.

Check that bought Superman rights for $130 sells for $160,000

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Decades after two young cartoonists from Cleveland sold the rights to Superman for $130, their 1938 paycheck fetched $160,000 on Monday in an online auction.
The winning bid landed the check that Detective Comics, later known as DC Comics, wrote to Jerome Siegel and Joe Shuster for the comic-book character with the "S" emblazoned on his chest.
"The concept of the superhero was born with Superman," said Vincent Zurzolo, co-owner of New York-based ComicConnect, which held the online auction.
"That $130 check essentially created a billion-dollar industry," he said, listing the super heroes who followed in the Man of Steel's footsteps, including Batman, Spider-Man and X-Men.
Like Superman, all of them today have their own blockbuster movie series and merchandise empires.
The check for the rights to the American icon who stands for truth, justice and the American way is "the holy grail" for comic book fans and collectors, Zurzolo said.
"Think about a world without Superman," Zurzolo said. "Without this check being written, we'd never have a Superman, we'd never have a comic-book industry."
Siegel and Shuster's agreement in 1938 to sell the rights for such a paltry sum came to haunt them and, later, their heirs, who sued DC Comics and its parent company Warner Bros.Sons of Jewish immigrants, Siegel and Shuster were childhood friends from Cleveland. After creating Superman as young men in their 20s, they offered the character around before finally making the sale to DC Comics.ComicConnect said that when the first Superman movie came out in 1978, Shuster was so broke he was working as an aging delivery man.To add insult to injury, the $130 payment was included in a $402 check that incorrectly spelled the names of Siegel and Shuster, forcing them to endorse it both ways in order to get paid. Shuster died in 1992 and Siegel in 1996.The check was sold on behalf of the heirs of a DC Comics employee, who stashed it for decades in a dresser drawer, the firm said. Zurzolo declined to reveal the identity of the buyer. The auction of the check comes months after a record $2.16 million was paid in December for a first issue of Action Comics, the comic book that unveiled Superman to the world. It cost 10 cents when it was published in 1938.

Confirmed: Keri Hilson To Perform In Ghana On The 6th Of May 2012

American singer, songwriter and actress, Keri Hilson, has hinted that she is getting ready to come to Ghana on May 26, for what seems to be a show. She also stated that prior to that visit, she is scheduled to first visit another African country, Mozambique on the 28th of April, 2012. The singer made this statement through her official twitter handle around 3:00GMT on April, 17 today. She tweeted: “@KeriHilson: Excited 2 check off 2 new countries on my AFRICA list! Performing in MOZAMBIQUE on April 28, & GHANA on May 26” If this tweet turns out to be fulfilled, she would be among the host of American international artistes such as Jay-z, Rick Ross, John Legend, Trey Songz, Mario, Busta Rhymes, Faboulous etc. who have in recent times visited the West African country. Keri Lynn Hilson (born December 5, 1982) was born and raised in Decatur, Georgia, and spent most of her youth working with producer Anthony Dent, as a songwriter and background vocalist for several R&B and hip hop artists. By the age of 14, Hilson had secured a record deal with the girl group D’Signe, who later disbanded. She attended Emory University in Atlanta, while she continued writing songs for artists, including Britney Spears and Mary J. Blige, with the production and songwriting team, The Clutch. In 2006, Hilson signed with American rapper and producer Timbaland’s record label, Mosley Music. Her breakthrough came the following year after appearing on Timbaland’s single, “The Way I Are”, which topped charts around the world. Hilson’s debut studio album, In a Perfect World…, was released in 2009, and debuted at number four on the US Billboard 200 chart, eventually being certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album spawned the hit singles, “Knock You Down”, “Turnin Me On” and “I Like”. It also earned Hilson two Grammy Award nominations for Best New Artist and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Knock You Down”. Her second studio album, No Boys Allowed, was released in 2010 and was considerably less successful than its predecessor; however, it included the hit single, “Pretty Girl Rock”. Hilson’s achievements include a BET Award, MOBO Award, NAACP Image Award and two Soul Train Music Awards. Apart from her work in music, she has pursued a career in acting, and will appear in the romantic comedy film, Think Like a Man, scheduled to be released in April 2012. You Might Also Like : Wow! James Ibori sentenced to 13 years in prison

IBORI GOES TO JAIL IN THE UK...13YRS NOT 13DAYZ...WAT NEXT..........

 SKY NEWS
Former governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori has been sentenced to 13 years for money laundering, by a court in London on Tuesday. The sentence was handed down to him by Judge Anthony Pitts.Ibori had pleaded guilty at Southwark Crown Court in February to a series of charges linked to the theft of money from Nigeria's Delta state and fraud involving state-owned shares in a mobile phone firm. Before Judge Pitts handed down the sentence, Ibori’s lawyers had tried to make a case for a lenient sentencing. His lawyer, Nicholas Pernell blamed Badrash Gohil and former Akwa Ibom State governor, Victor Attah, for the V-Mobile scam saying they were the architects of the fraud. He further credited his client with every development in Nigeria, and especially in Delta State, from the banking reforms, to peace in the Niger Delta, education, and building of low-cost housing. Also in his defence, he stated that his client, James Ibori, played a part in supporting British industry even before he became governor. As evidence, he cited a letter from British Airways, thanking Ibori for restoring direct flights between Nigeria and Britain.Pernell, in his conclusion, asked the Judge to consider the pressure that his client has been under since investigations began in 2005, and also Ibori’s children who now have both their parents in custody before passing his sentence. Also in his defence, former Nigeria Football Association (NFA) board member, John Fashanu, made an appearance the Southwark Crown Court Nine Tuesday on behalf of the former governor. The former Wimbledon striker told the court that the former governor achieved a lot in sports, and was instrumental to the end of militancy in the state. Fashanu also said that Ibori built nine mini-sports stadia and three Olympic-sized stadia in Delta State and also built the first shooting range in Nigeria. The court went for a recess at about 12.30pm and reconvened at 2.25pm after which his sentence was read.Ibori had earlier pleaded guilty to a number of corruption and money laundering charges against him put at about $250million before Judge Pitts. This includes the V-Mobile and Bombardaire scams which amounted to $50million. Ibori and Victor Attah, former Akwa Ibom state governor also formed a phantom company called ADF to siphon US$37.5million from Delta and Akwa Ibom states’ shares in V-Mobile. He was accused of embezzling these funds during his tenure as governor and using most of them to live a lavish lifestyle and acquire property and assets around the world.Judge Pitts said that the sentencing will not be the end of the matter as his property will also be confiscated. He was trying to buy a plane for £12m at the time he was arrested.Ibori admitted one count of conspiracy to launder money, five of money laundering and one of obtaining a property transfer by deception over the theft of more than £25m while he was governor of the region. He also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud, conspiracy to make false instruments, and one count of money laundering linked to a $37m (£23.3m) share fraud surrounding the sale of shares in telecomm’s company, V Mobile.Prosecutor Sasha Wass told the court Ibori had accepted he was involved in "wide-scale theft, fraud and corruption when he was governor of Delta state".He allegedly used a false date of birth when he ran for the governorship of the state to conceal previous convictions as a criminal record would have excluded him from taking part in the election.Ms Wass added: "Mr Ibori tricked his way into public office. He had tricked the Nigerian authorities and the Nigerian voters. He was thus never the legitimate governor of Delta state."According to prosecutors he is 49, but according to the date of birth he used in Nigeria he would be 53.Ibori was extradited from Dubai to the UK in April 2011 and Detective Inspector Paul Whatmore said it was estimated that Ibori stole around $250m (£157m) while he was Delta State governor. He said: "The scale can only be described as huge. Vast sums of money which were used to fund his lavish lifestyle."The real harm in this case is the potential loss to people in some of the poorest regions in the world."Attempts will now be made to confiscate as much of the money as possible, so that it can be returned to the state government, Whatmore said.Ibori's wife Theresa, sister Christine Ibori-Idie, mistress, Udoamaka Okoronkwo and London-based solicitor, Bhadresh Gohil have all already been convicted for their part in the money-laundering.
