AFRICA FASHION WEEK LONDON TO PRODUCE FASHION SHOW FOR AFRICA ON THE SQUARE

An exclusive fashion show directed by Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) which will feature designers from the contemporary African UK fashion scene as well as new, up and coming designers.  AFWL will again be supported by Motions Hair UK andAbbie May Make Up Artist, providing the fiercest looks for our models on stage.

There will be an African market selling a range of African themed products, including fashion and arts and crafts, plus food stalls, and a host of activities for children and families to get involved in, such as hair braiding, face-painting, mosaics-making and batik-making. The event is programmed by Open the Gate.
ABOUT AFRICA ON THE SQUARE

The Mayor of London Boris Johnson has confirmed more details of the African festival he is bringing to Trafalgar Square on Saturday 10 October, as part of the capital's Black History Month celebrations.

Everyone is invited to attend Africa on the Square, which has an exciting programme inspired by the traditions and cultures of the African continent. The free celebration follows on from the huge success of last year’s inaugural event and is sponsored by Lebara and Air France and supported by media partner The Voice.

British Council launches major season of UK and Nigerian Art

The British Council has launched UK/Nigeria 2015–16, a major season of arts in Nigeria aimed at building new audiences, creating new collaborations and strengthening relationships between the UK and Nigeria.

The announcement, at the garden of the British Council office in Ikoyi, Lagos, brought together, the crème de la crème of the arts and creative industry in Nigeria.

With live poem recital from Wana Wana, popular on air personality, speeches from Simon Shercliff, Acting British High Commissioner to Nigeria; Connie Price, Country Director Nigeria, British Council; Lola Shoneyin, Founder, author and founder of Ake Arts and Book Festival; and a night of delightful music featuring DJ Sose and a live performance from KPeace, Nigeria Idol season 5 winner known for his brand of Fuji infused music, the event was a beautiful experience.

Showcasing the collaboration that the season aims to achieve, the event was replete with several UK and Nigerian item like tea cups, palm wine gourds, and wine glasses.

The event also featured a tie and dye session where participants made tie and dye with Nike Arts Gallery.
