Lady Gaga's fake fingernail picked up for $12,000 at auction

Image: Lady Gaga
A fake fingernail worn by Lady Gaga has been auctioned off for quite the tidy sum when it was snapped up by an enthusiastic buyer who was clearly looking to scratch an itch for all things Gaga.
The final tally for the sale? A cool $12,000 -- yep, for one nail.
Designed by Aya Fukada, the black acrylic nail features intricate gold embellishments. It was worn by Mother Monster at the launch of her Fame fragrance last September, when the diva famously stepped out in an Alien-esque black latex ensemble.
She'd go on to wear it again a day later at her Born This Way Ball concert in Dublin, Ireland.

The auctioned nail.
According to the auction listing, the nail was recovered by a stage crew member after the pop star's performance, and the lucky buyer will also receive, among other Gaga memorabilia, a photo of the singer onstage in Dublin showing her missing the nail in question.
"I noticed an object on the floor of the stage, which at first I thought was a guitar plectrum," the tour member reportedly said, per the auction listing's notes. "When I picked it up, I saw it was an acrylic nail."
Based that final price tag, looks like somebody thought the memento was definitely worth fighting tooth and nail over.

'Liz & Dick' vs. 'Burton and Taylor' -- which pair is better?

They haven't been a couple since 1976. He hasn't been alive since 1984, and she died in 2011. Yet Welsh-born Richard Burton and British-American Elizabeth Taylor, the on-again, off-again co-stars, spouses, lovers and fighters are having something of a Hollywood Renaissance -- with the second of two movies about them set to air later this year.
But how will "Burton and Taylor" -- the BBC's take -- measure up against Lifetime's "Liz & Dick," which aired last Thanksgiving? Here's a breakdown of both films, and a chance for you to tell us which pairing you think will be the better love/hate match.
Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor and Grant Bowler as Richard Burton.
Lifetime
Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor and Grant Bowler as Richard Burton.
'Liz & Dick'
Starring: Lindsay Lohan and Grant Bowler
British Factor: 25% -- Bowler's from New Zealand; Lohan New York.
An overview of the couple's troubled relationship, with looks into some of the films they co-starred in, including "Cleopatra" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?"
Star Power: Party animal and legal trainwreck Lohan ensured the movie would get a lot of press, but her co-star Bowler is a virtual unknown in the U.S. (He recently signed on to host "The Amazing Race Australia.")

Terrible reviews, terrible ratings. Touted as Lohan's "comeback" role, it was nothing of the sort; The Hollywood Reporter called it "spectacularly bad."
Dominic West as Richard Burton and Helena Bonham Carter as Elizabeth Taylor.
BBC America
Dominic West as Richard Burton and Helena Bonham Carter as Elizabeth Taylor.
'Burton and Taylor'
Starring: Dominic West and Helena Bonham Carter
British Factor: 100 percent: West is from Yorkshire, England; Bonham Carter from London.
A focused look at the couple as they reunited one last time in a Broadway performance of an adaptation of the Noel Coward play "Private Lives" in 1983. He would die the following year, and the performance did not go over well with critics.
Star Power: West was most recently seen in "The Hour," but fans of "The Wire" will recognize him as the womanising, often-drunk Baltimore police detective Jimmy McNulty from. Bonham Carter frequently appears in Tim Burton's films (he's her long-time beau) and has two Oscar nominations, the most recent of which is for "The King's Speech."

Michelle Obama confronts gay-rights heckler at fundraiser

Michelle Obama confronted a gay-rights protester who heckled her at a Democratic fundraiser in Washington on Tuesday, offering to give her the microphone and leave, before the crowd cheered for the first lady to stay.

Obama was 12 minutes into a planned 20-minute speech at a couple’s home when a woman standing at the front of the small crowd interrupted, demanding that President Barack Obama sign an executive order on gay rights.“One of the things I don’t do well is this,” the first lady said before walking down from the lectern and approaching the protester, according to a pool reporter covering the event.
Obama told the woman that people gathered in the backyard tent could "listen to me or you can take the mic, but I'm leaving,” before telling the crowd, “You all decide. You have one choice.”At that, the crowd began chanting for Obama to stay as one woman told the protester, “You need to leave.”The woman was escorted out, shouting that she was a “lesbian looking for federal equality before I die.”Obama then returned to the lectern and finished her speech, getting loud applause as she did. Those in attendance, apparently including the protester, had paid $500 to $10,000 for tickets to the event, which was held at the home of power couple Karen Dixon and Nan Schaffer.
The heckler was identified as Ellen Sturtz, an activist with the GetEQUAL campaign group, which campaigns for lesbian and gay rights, by several media.
Sturtz told The Washington Post that she was surprised by the first lady's actions.
