US: Politician hopes Sandy victims won’t blow aid on Gucci bags

Well, let’s add another track to “Steve King’s Greatest Hits,” along with supporting Todd Akin and bragging about “wiping out” animal rights. As millions survey the damage from Hurricane Sandy, the Iowa congressman is already worried about what victims will do with the federal aid they haven’t received yet.
“I want them to get the resources that are necessary,” he said Tuesday night during a debate. “But they need to come with a plan on how to spend it, because [after Hurricane Katrina] they spent it on Gucci bags and massage parlors.” King was one of only 11 members of Congress who opposed a 2005 bill to help those affected by Katrina. King’s opponent, Christie Vilsack, called his comments “heartless.” [Source]

P-Square Condems Collecting Society

The management of Peter and Paul Okoye, the sensational twin singers, has come out to reveal the reasons their entertainment outfits, Square Records and Northside Entertainment don’t belong to any collecting society.
Many music fans have been itching to find out why P-Square are one of the few groups operating on the music scene without a necessary backup from a collecting society, the manager of the twin brothers and their sibling John Okoye, has spoken up.
“We have been in show business long enough and experienced the joy and pain to know that collecting societies are not the solution to the problems facing the music industry, the major problem is piracy. We want the Federal Government to approve and empower a body or agency in the mould of NAFDAC to tackle the problem. The entertainment industry urgently needs a national agency to tackle piracy, copyright law violators and royalty defaulters.’’
He explained further, “P-Square and our companies, Square Records and Northside Entertainment, have not joined any collecting society because we don’t want to give any organisation the power to collect royalties on our behalf without showing a keen interest in solving our greatest problem, which is piracy. It doesn’t make sense. I’m not against any collecting society. But come to me as an approved body recognised by the government to fight piracy and I will carry you on my shoulder because I know there will be more money at the end of the day for me. Also, I would know that my future is guaranteed.”

Rihanna To Sell New Album For $250 a Piece!

rihana
Rihanna seems to find her upcoming seventh studio album an occasion worth celebrating. The singer is releasing a $250 version of “Unapologetic,” collectible colored vinyls, a handwritten note from Rihanna, a 2GB flash drive, a t-shirt, lithographs, an illustration, stickers and — wait for it — a custom View Master with photos of Rihanna’s style throughout the years.
Also included: A 40-page notebook with more scribblings from the Barbadian beauty, a photobooklet, DVD, fan poster and a deluxe version of the album itself.
The “Diamond Executive Platinum Box” is set to hit stores Dec. 11. A cheaper version of the swag bag is also available for $79, and includes a number of the items in the “executive” package. A limited edition diamond bracelet is also included.
Diamonds have figured prominently in the buildup to “Unapologetic.” The Benny Blanco-produced lead single, “Diamonds,” came with artwork that depicted the singer rolling a joint full of the precious stones. Rumors are also swirling that the singer has purchased diamond bracelets for all tour VIPS.
What can be said? She’s just about that life. For fans too thrifty to plunk down such a chunk of change, the album itself is out Nov. 16.

Taylor Swift Sells 1.2Million Copies of New Album in First Week

Swift performing during the Australian leg of her Speak Now Tour in 2012

NEW YORK — Taylor Swift’s new album is called “Red,” but its true color is a brilliant platinum. The 22-year-old sold 1.2 million copies of her latest album in its first week – the largest sales week for any album in a decade.
Nielsen SoundScan confirmed the blockbuster sales on Tuesday night. “Red” marks Swift’s second straight album to sell more than 1 million copies in its first week; “Speak Now,” her third album, sold a little over 1 million copies when it was released in 2010. She is the only woman to have two albums sell more than 1 million copies in its first week.
“They just told me Red sold 1.2 million albums first week. How is this real life?! You are UNREAL. I love you so much. Thanks a million ;) ,” Swift tweeted Tuesday night.
The only other act to sell more than 1 million copies of an album in its debut week twice was `N Sync.
Swift isn’t a boy band, but she’s certainly got the appeal of one: the country crossover has a huge following, particularly among teens who have followed her since she was a teen herself, releasing her first album. But she’s also a critic’s darling: The Grammy-winner’s “Red” garnered plenty of acclaim when it was released last week.
Swift was omnipresent in the week of the album’s release, appearing on such shows as “Good Morning America” and “Katie.” She also joined with two untraditional partners – Papa John’s and Walgreens, which offered the album for sale. And she announced her upcoming tour.
The last album to sell more than 1 million copies in its debut week was Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way,” which sold 1.1 million copies last year. However, that album was deeply discounted on Amazon.com in its first week.
Swift has the opportunity to celebrate for a second time this week: As the reigning “Entertainer of the Year” at the CMA Awards, she has the chance to capture the trophy again when it is held Thursday in Nashville.

Popular Nollywood Actor, Kenneth Okonkwo Dumps Acting For Evangelism?

For some time now, star actor, Kenneth Okonkwo, who played the movie role of ‘Andy’ in the popular movie ‘Living in Bondage’ has not been seen in most movies as he used to in the past.

What Nigeriafilms.com can confirm to you is that the prolific actor has added the gospel of soul winning for God to his already acquired two professions; acting and law profession. The actor surprised many when he was seen at a lawyers’ forum few years ago.
Now, Kenneth has shown that aside from acting and law practice, he is a good Evangelist; a fisher of men for God. Kenneth Okonkwo recently headlined a 3-day crusade held in Ikorodu, Lagos as a guest minister of God of the event.
The ’3-Day Explosive Fire and Total Deliverance’ crusade was tagged ‘Night of Dominion’ and was held between September 26-28. 2012. The service took place at Evangelist Peter Nwabueze’s Christ Mission Worldwide Church, Owode Onirin, Ikorodu Lagos.
Liz Benson, Pat Attah, Eucharia Anunobi are the few actors who have become ‘fishers of men’, will Kenneth dump acting to face the God’s minister full time? Or will he keep doing the three professions?
