Alex Ferguson Promises To Make A Statement During Champions League

Sir Alex Ferguson has stated Manchester United will look to make a statement in this season's Champions League.

United had a disappointing season by their own lofty standards last term, with the Red Devils failing to pick up a trophy and crashing out of the Champions League at the group stage.

They were agonisingly close to Premier League glory, with Manchester City pipping them to the title, but it would appear that their failure in Europe last season is something Ferguson is determined to remedy.

"It's fair to say we threw that one away," the Scot said of the Champions League last season. "That won't happen again next season.

"We'll qualify from the group stages, I'll make sure of it. European football is hugely important to us and we must compete for the biggest trophies. We need to make a statement - and show everybody last season was just a blip.
