Forbes has just released its annual list of the 100 Most Powerful Women in the World and 10 Black women made the cut this year. First Lady Michelle Obama landed in the highest spot at number 7, followed by Oprah Winfrey at number 10.
Beyoncé, who recently spurred a billion messages and acts of good deeds for the United Nations’ “I Was Here” humanitarian campaign, is the only Black artist on the list.
Other important Black women on the list include Ursula Burns, the chairman and CEO of Xerox; Rosalind Brewer, president and CEO of Sam’s Club; Helene Gayle, president and CEO of humanitarian organization CARE; and Ertharin Cousin, the executive director of the United Nation’s World Food Programme.
FLOTUS was not the only political figure who made an appearance on the list. Malawi President Joyce Banda, Liberia President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, and Nigeria’s Minister of Finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala have us wondering when a Black woman will lead our country. At least our Secretary of State Hillary Clinton scored the second spot on the list......
