Women Winn $200,000 Lawsuit For Dog SpermLooks like this animal hospital really screwed the pooch. Two Pennsylvania women were awarded more than $200,000 in total on Thursday in a lawsuit over the destroyed sperm samples of two champion poodles, the Centre Daily Times reports. Linda Blackie, breeder at Whisperwind Kennels in Altoona, and dog owner of Miriam Thomas, Huntington, had entrusted 122 frozen samples of semen from the prized pooches to the Mt. Nittany Animal Hospital. The hospital mistakenly thawed — and thus destroyed — the samples in May 2010, according to the Associated Press.

The two women initially sought over $300,000, claiming that they could have made $5,000 off of every two samples.
Robert Mix, attorney for the animal hospital, denied the women’s claim that the samples were that valuable, noting that the quality of the samples ranged from “moderately good to extremely poor.”
Jury members found themselves deliberating over just how much the dog semen samples were worth.
“I think everyone was disappointed it had to come to this,” said attorney Louis Glantz, who represented the women.
