Game has always been vocal about his love for West Coast hip hop, and how he has been influenced by some of the classic albums coming out of L.A. In a recent interview he compares his upcoming Jesus Piece LP to perhaps the most classic West Coast album of all time, The Chronic. The Compton product says much like the Dr. Dre LP, his Jesus Piece album will be littered with dop features.
While he is certainly the star of the album, in a sit down with MTV, Game says that much like his first single from the LP, “Celebration” which has huge features from Chris Brown, Lil Wayne and Wiz Khalifa, his album will have loads of features, “The thing about the Jesus Piece is, it’s kinda like a 2012 Chronic album, if you will. I’m on it, and I’m on it a hell of a lot, but I got a lot of features.”
Sticking with the theme of his album, while also talking about a couple dope guests, the L.A. rapper says he wanted a bunch of talented rappers coming together for the project, ”I wanted to get all of the dope hip-hop artists that are dope now that are friends of mines — from 2 Chainz to Ross to Meek Mill — and I wanted everybody to co-exist on this dope hip-hop album under this concept, which is Jesus Piece ’cause we all be rockin’ Jesus pieces.”
Don’t be fooled by the title and talk of “Jesus Pieces”, as previously stated, the album will look into his view of church, but also his love of indulgence, ”It’s not a Christian album, it’s not an album that’s strictly about church or nothin’,” Game added, “It’s just a constant battle with religion and street life and hip-hop and lyricism and bitches and your wife and your kids and just the struggle.”
Jesus Piece is slated to drop on December 11th.
