ECOWAS President Approves Ecowas Fashion Week During the 38th Annual Ecowas Anniversary Celebration

Ecowas Fashion Week 2The Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) will organize its first fashion week in October this year to enable designers, manufacturers, sellers and buyers of African fabrics to reap full dividends.
Some well-known fashion designers have used African fabrics like Aso-oke, Ama serwaa, Akosombo, Ankara, Akwete, Tie & dye, Kente and Bonsu in their collections presented in recent years at some of the major fashion events in London, New York, Paris, Milan and Johannesburg.
The ECOWAS Fashion Week 2013 aims to boost textile, apparel and fashion design across ECOWAS counties, which in turn would generate new employment opportunities in the region.
Head quartered in Abuja, Nigeria, ECOWAS comprises of 15 countries, namely Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo. However, Guinea and Niger are currently suspended from the regional grouping because of coup d’état in those countries.
The organizers expect about 50 fifty fashion designers to display their collections at the four-day event, which would invite participation of top buyers as well.
Aya Morrison, Ituen Bassey, Sally Bawa, Adama Amanda Ndiaye, Alphadi, and House of Farrah are some of the designers/labels who have already expressed their willingness to showcase at the event.
