Apple, Pear, Hourglass, Rectangle Or Inverted Triangle Body? Here Is How To Dress For Your Body Shape

Knowing your body shape is the key to dressing well. It is not your height or weight that matters, but your shape; a tall person and a petite one can very well be of the same shape. Body shape depends on your proportions, so learning to dress those proportions to look their best is fundamental.
Although each of us are different and unique, we all fall into a few basic body shapes, and some of us might even be a combination of two or more shapes. Once you have determined your shape, you can then decide the best trends to embrace to emphasise your best features and what to avoid.
The Apple
Apple shaped bodies have a bigger bust, rounded stomach area and slimmer hips. The key to dressing an apple shape is to take attention away from the midriff and focus on the great bits, your cleavage or your bum and legs.
  • Wear slim fitting trousers to show off your legs, and v-necked tops to emphasise your great bust.
  • Structured and tailored clothing will give you definition, and accessories will draw attention to your best features. Experiment with items such as drop earrings and chunky bangles.
  • Try using slimming shapewear to pull the excess flab in and define your waist.
  •
The Pear
Those with a pear shape have a smaller bust and narrow shoulders, with bigger hips, thighs or bum. Try to take the attention away from your lower body and showcase your upper half.
  • Show off your slim upper body by wearing strapless tops and maxis.
  • Shoulder pads in shirts and jackets will help balance out your wider hips.
  • Emphasise your tiny waist by wearing belts across your slimmest part.
The Hourglass
Hourglass shapes have an ample bust, curvy hips and a defined waist. Show off your curves if you are lucky enough to be blessed with this shape.
  • Although often thought of as the ideal body shape, high street fashion is not generally tailored to suit curvier bodies. Stay in trend using colour and accessories if you are unable to find the latest items in your size
  • Skirts look fantastic on an hourglass shape. Take your pick from a-lines, pencil skirts and peplums to accentuate your waist and hips.
The Rectangle
If you are slim with few curves, you have a rectangle body shape. Your waist, hips and shoulders are all of a similar size.
  • Look for styles that will feminise your figure and stop it looking overly boyish. Use patterned materials and details such as frills and ruffles to your advantage.
  • Use chunky necklaces to give the illusion of a fuller bust.
The Inverted Triangle
Broader shoulders than hips define the inverted triangle shape. Those with this shape often have an athletic build and have great legs to compensate for the lack of waist and hips. The most important thing to remember if you have this shape is to add volume around your waist to balance out your shoulders.
  • Use prints to create the effect of more bulk on your lower body.
  • Wear chunky accessories on your wrists and eye catching shoes.
  • Harem pants are an excellent choice for this shape.
