Hot property: Yvonne Okoro

A self-professed introvert, Ghanaian/ Nigerian actress Yvonne Chinyere Okoro Okereke is nothing like one would expect from a top-tier, beautiful actress. Her unobtrusive allure belies her distinction as one of Nollywood’s highest paid stars.

AfricaMagic Entertainment pays tribute to the dazzling star in August labeling the month Yvonne Okoro and Yvonne Nelson Month. The channel will be screening some of their most celebrated works.

There has always been a slight controversy about Yvonne Okoro’s nationality, her father is Nigerian, her mother is Ghanaian, while Yvonne has always asserted that above all else she is African.

The actress
A natural performer from an early age, Okoro’s screen debut came in 2002 with the movie Sticking to the Promise followed by a cameo role in the series Tentacles. But it wasn’t until her supporting role in the feature film BeyoncĂ© that she hit the big-time.

And in recent years she has even been featured in a movie in France.

Awards
On the list of Okoro’s accomplishments she counts a Ghana Movie Award for Best Actress in 2010. She was nominated for an African Movie Academy Award for Best Actress In a Leading Role twice in a row in 2011 and 2012 for her movies Pool Party and Single Six as well as a Pan African Actress nomination in the Nigeria Entertainment Awards 2012.

She was also honoured with a Distinguished Achievement Award in 2012 at Nigeria Excellence Awards.
