Nigeria’s fashion industry worth over $10bn
Kuddus Kolawole, Lagos State Coordinator of the Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria (FADAN), says the nation’s fashion industry is worth about 10 billion dollars (About N1.55 trillion) and should attract investors “because it is juicy”.
Speaking with NAN in Lagos on Friday, he said Nigeria’s fashion industry was striving hard to grow because of challenges such as erratic power supply and other overhead costs.
“Our population in Nigeria, I must say, is one of the advantages we have in the fashion industry because it provides the platform for our works.
“I can boldly say that Nigeria’s fashion industry is worth over 10 billion dollars, but we are yet to tap into all the potential because of the cost of production which is aggravated by poor power supply.

Lagos Ebola fears hit sex workers, traders
Kate, Bright and Happiness sat on the lawn of a Lagos brothel, sipping lager and chatting with men in groups of two or four. Business had been good, they said, until Ebola arrived.
“I have been in this business for two years but business has never been this slow,” said Kate.
“I used to have an average of seven customers per day but I can hardly see four now since this Ebola disease came to town,” the 25-year-old told AFP.
“Many of our customers are afraid to come to us for fear of contracting the disease. This Ebola wahala (problem) is really bad business. The government should do something about it.”
With Ebola spread through the bodily fluids of an infected person, including sweat, the sex workers say they’ve been particularly badly hit by public fears.
“This disease is bad-o!” said 23-year-old Bright. “It is worse than HIV/AIDS. You can prevent HIV by using condoms but you can’t do the same with Ebola.
“If care is not taken we will soon be driven out of business because nobody wants to die.”
Sex workers aren’t the only ones in the informal economy — in which an estimated three-quarters of Nigerians work — who are feeling the effects of Ebola. Three people have died of the disease in Lagos, and more are expected.
Sellers of bushmeat, a popular delicacy in Nigeria and elsewhere in the region, also complain of fewer customers.
The hunters, who catch animals such as antelope, porcupine and bush rats, fear for their livelihoods if the trend continues.
Fruit bats and monkeys are both thought to transmit the virus.

“We Are In Love” Saeon and Uti Nwachukwu
I don’t like to put my personal business out there. I have known Uti for a while and he was in my only video. I met him prior to shooting the video because he helped me to bring some of the things I used in the video from England. We started talking, hanging out and then this. We are in love and he is a very honest person and also genuine. People would always say things about him which obviously are not true but that would not stop him from being him. He is God-fearing, very funny and of course, good-looking. This affair is no publicity stunt; even though I know Uti is a big brand and I am only an emerging brand.
Saeon
On competition in the industry
Competition is healthy; it makes you want to grow. I am carving a niche and creating a brand. When I first came into the industry, some people said that I sounded like Tiwa Savage even though I did not see the semblance. I took it as a compliment but I need people to understand that Saeon is Saeon.
Saeon
Music can be rewarding
It gets more financially rewarding as you grow. As people get to know you, you get more shows, though as an up and coming artiste, you get to do some shows for free but that can still be counted as experience so you are not losing out in any way.
Saeon
No album yet
I went professional in 2012 but I have been putting out music since 2009 to pave the way for me. I don’t have an album yet because if you understand the norm in Nigeria, you are expected to be known all over and have a hit single before you can put out an album. I just released a single, ‘Boogie down’ featuring Wizkid. I am not with any music label. I have been funding my career by myself and with the help of my parents. I don’t think I want to join a label and have to wait on the line. Any record label that wants me to put pen to paper must be able to bring to the table much more than I can as an independent artiste.
