John Terry backs Chelsea plans to move away from Stamford Bridge and build new 60,000-seater stadium

Chelsea captain John Terry backs the club’s plans to develop a new 60,000-seater stadium and move away from Stamford Bridge.

Terry spoke out in support of club owner Roman Abramovich’s plans to buy out the Chelsea Pitch Owners' (CPO) stake in the Stamford Bridge freehold, with the proposal subject to growing criticism as it is seen as the first step in a move away from the Blues’ current home.

"Obviously, I have great memories of Stamford Bridge," Terry said. "But what excites me is the thought of my kids, who are Chelsea through and through, being able to grow up watching the team play in a big stadium.

"It's not hidden that other clubs throughout Europe have gone out and bought sites for big stadiums. And we are not the only club with a rich owner. There are others, including QPR locally, who are going to look to expand in west London as well."
